The Support Judy Mays Giveaway

If you are at all on FB or Twitter, or just about anywhere on line really, you probably heard yesterday about the news story (I use the term loosely) revealing the pen-name of romance novel writer Judy Mays, who is also… a high school English teacher.  Apparently this is a problem for some of the parents of her students.   If you didn’t catch it, you can find the article here.

This entire situation is filled with WTF-ery to me, and makes me seriously growl.

I watched all day long as authors and readers alike rallied around Judy to show their support.  I watched as FB and Twitter exploded into a mass of outrage, rightfully so.  I watched as the “new source” began to delete the comments showing support for Judy Mays left on their FB page, I watched as they turned off the ability to protest to them at all… filled with more of the WTF-ery is what I think of that.

I watched all of this, and decided… I want to do something too.  I left my comments, which were deleted, I joined the Support Judy Mays pages, I shared the links, I sent my emails... I did what I could.  I was not satisfied.  So… to my blog I go.

I’ve decided that the way I’m going to show support for Judy, is to sponsor a giveaway.   So, welcome to my spontaneous Support Judy Mays giveaway.

I have 3 books; each is a #1 in a series.  This giveaway would be…winner take all.  You know the drill, it’s the same as always, leave me a comment telling me you’re entering the contest, don’t forget your email address so I can contact you… and you’re in.  Contest will close Monday, May 2nd, 11:30pm PST.  I’ll announce the winner Tuesday, May 3rd.  Fine print is at the bottom of the post.

Let's play giveaway.  Ready... set... go!

Myths....
Legends....
What is true? What isn't?

According to legend, if one's need is great enough, a jaguar will come, a jaguar who can change into a man.

Spread-eagled and naked on a sacrificial altar, Sanika's need is great -- and it is answered...by Balam, the huge, black jaguar that rescues her and carries her back to his lair where he nurses her back to health -- and love.

In the hot, bubbling pools and deep darkness of Balam's volcanic cave, Sanika discovers the joys of physical intimacy with a sleek, lithe being who is far more than human. From the first, gentle rasp of his rough tongue against her sensitive skin, she is lost in a sultry, sensual dance of desire.

For Balam, their union is far more profound. This beautiful, sexy woman accepts him for what he is -- half man, half beast. All he has to do is convince her to stay.

What’s a good old country boy vampire supposed to do when a smartass city-slicker female barrels into his life and totally disrupts it? What’s wrong with hunting deer—with a rifle—for their blood, having a bushy beard, drinking beer out of Mason jars and sleeping in the bathtub? And what’s wrong with his name? He was named after his grandfather. Rusty Nipple is a fine name.

Amber arrives at her late aunt’s quiet farm planning to write her vampire romance, only to find a man in her bathtub—a dead man. Only he’s not dead. Well, sort of not dead. What more could a romance writer ask for but her very own vampire hero? He’ll be able to tell Amber things about vampires no other author could ever find out. 1. In this day and age I find it hard to believe there are such ignorant people out there. Ms Mays has done nothing wrong.

  2. Thank you for supporting Ms. Mays. As a parent of teenagers, I find it is my responsability as to whether or not my children get access to these types of books, and no, I do not believe it is a conflict of interest for an English teacher to have a pseudonym, and be able to write stories such as Ms. Mays does. If I could write so well, I would do the same. I love that brave people have approached erotica and made it available toreaders who want an escape. That is why we live in America, for freedoms like this.

    Thank you, again.

  4. I think it's great you're doing this. I read many of the FB protest comments on the news station page, apparently before they were removed. I'm really glad so many people are showing her support. I really hope this doesn't affect her job.

Thanks for the opportunity to win some of her books.

  5. I think it is stupid to cause all these problems for this woman. She is a teacher, yes, but that is not a 24/7/365 position. When she is not teaching, she should be able to do whatever she wants, without it affecting her position. She has been a respected teacher for 25 years, and has tried, and succeeded until this, to keep the 2 things separate. I really hope that the school system does not dismiss her for this. If it does, she should definately sue them, the tv station, and the people who started all this trouble for her.

Thank you for supporting Ms. Mays!

  6. Just writing to say hells to the yeah on this--I love what you're doing. Bigotry is disgusting in all its forms and Judy is the victim here, not anyone else. For all the wailing of "Won't somebody think of the children!" it seems to me like Judy, a well-respected educator for a great many years, has been doing exactly that all along--and better than their closed-minded parents are now. Good for you for doing this :)

(Don't enter me in the contest. I just wanted to say "You go, girl!")
