Snow's Heat by Nicole Hicks
Publisher: Summerhouse Publishing
Genre: M/F, Paranormal Romance
The Blurb: When your husband declares you aren’t enough after ten years, don’t get mad… Get a Bic and start a bonfire!
When Sabrina’s husband decides to move on to greener, and freer pastures, she knows she has to move on herself. Wounded and alone, she escapes to a friend’s cabin to think about her future…and burn her past. Literally.
Can she rise from the ashes of her marriage a new woman, or did she lose too much trying to salvage an illusion? Dealing with the heartache of her new reality, she meets a mystery man in the backwoods. One that makes her burn with desire.
Once just a soldier, now Travis is something…more. His last tour changed him in more ways than one. Can he come to terms with what he is, while dealing with the mixture of lust and possessiveness Bree brings out in him? Or is her past too much for him to handle?
Looks good doesn't it. *hears a knock at the door*
*gasp* she’s here! *looks around once more* Ok...I think I'm ready... *opens the door*... Nicole! Come in, come in!
Nicole: Ohhh! Hey hon! *hugs* This is so exciting!
Amara: *hugs* Inorite?! I’m so vera excited that you are here! Can I get you something to drink? Coffee, Tea…?
Nicole: Mmmm Coffee, every writers best friend! ;)
Amara: Mmmm, silly blog girl’s best friend too. *winks* Make yourself comfortable darlin’, let us coffee up *pours and passes mug*
Nicole: *Looks around* You know, I love what you’ve done with the place! It’s got that comfy homey feel to it! :D *settles into comfy chair with legs curled up and coffee mug in hand* Ok I think I’m ready…
Amara: Oh thank you! I’m so glad you like it. *smiles* Ok, I think I'm ready too. so…hmm...where to start. *takes a sip of coffee and sets it down on the table* Why don’t you tell us a little about yourself. Who is the fabulous Nicole Hicks?
Nicole: Fabulous? *Looks around for hidden cameras* Ach I’m just me, lol. That question always gets to me, honestly. Hmmm. Well, I’m a small town gal, with three kids that keep me young and hip while they give me gray hair, and a great group of gal pals- that unfortunately live all over the world. (Thank goodness for the internet eh ladies?) I have a review site, HowlingGoodBooks~ Kinda strange being on this end of the table though *looks around with a grin* I edit for five Publishers as well as freelance, and to be honest writing is something I’ve always done, just never on this public a scale, lol.
Amara: *laughs* Yes, fabulous. Fabulous and awfully busy it sounds, my goodness. I have to just say, I am soooo excited about your book. Vera. Tell me aaaall about it! Uh… *pauses*…wait… is this your first?
Nicole: Well, Snow’s Heat is my first published book, but I also have poetry published. This one is a bit dear to me. Bree, Sabrina, is having a rough time putting that final hurt behind her from her ex and takes some time away at a friend’s cabin to “burn” that last bridge. She does something I think we all would love to do and “burn that man right out of our lives” *sings it to the wash that gray right out of your hair tune*
Amara: *laughs* I like her already...
Nicole: Travis, our male lead, *fans self* is an ex-military man with a guilty survivors conscience, who is trying to deal with his past and the changes that happened on his last tour. When they meet sparks fly… just not necessarily the good sparks lol. We have a few catty remarks that fly through the air that first meet! ;)
Can’t give too much away now can we? LOL
Amara: No, *shakes head* no we can’t. So tell me, what inspired it?
Nicole: Have to ask the toughies don’t ya? LOL.
Amara: *laughs* Yes, yes I do. I’m not letting you off easy.
Nicole: I think all writers are inspired by things in their lives- whether situations, emotions, beliefs, or simple everyday discussions. Snow’s Heat was inspired by going through a rough emotional time myself. I wanted to help other women “get away” from their problems, just for a bit, and tried to use that excess emotion to make Bree a three dimensional character in a short. Someone you can feel for, and yet show that there is always hope… even in the face of pain.
Amara: *nods* I feel ya there. Tell me, how long have you been writing?
Nicole: I actually wrote my first poem when I was 9. Well I know I wrote before that, I was forever telling stories to my friends, but the first I remember putting to paper was at nine… it was a poem about a bat, lol. It is something that I have always loved doing and always said I would do one day… And then one day I decided it was time to follow my dream, and make it a reality.
Amara: Nine? Awesome. I love it, that rocks. Who’s your favorite character from the book… and why?
Nicole: Fave character huh? LOL That’s a toughie too…. I love Bree, there’s a lot of me in her. She’s emotional but tries to be tough. But then again Travis is one hell of a h-a-w-t-i-e! ;) *sighs dreamily*
Amara: Mmmm, hellahawtie. *grins* Nice. Ok, how about this one… if your characters were cake, what kind of cake would they be?
Nicole: Hmmm if you put them all together to make a cake it would be a carrot cake! Sweet with a hint of decadence, a little nutty, and some gooey thick white cream… cheese icing! ;) Thought I was going naughty there didn’t you? hehehhe
Amara: *laughs* I did! Cheese icing indeed. So, I’m curious, what’s your hidden talent?
Nicole: Hidden talent? You mean like my x-ray vision? Or the super mom hearing? Or the editing books in a single sitting? (Ok that last one’s a fib, my butt would fall asleep!) I would have to say it would be one of three…. Either my super ability to be a klutz in regular shoes (put me in heels and I am graceful… Tennis shoes and I’ll fall UP stairs as well as down). My joy of cooking, I love to cook and put together a family recipe book one year for Christmas and am currently working on redoing it to release for Amazon. Or singing/dancing. I love to sing, and the kids actually beg for me to… And the dancing… Well I can waltz, jitter-bug, two step, three step, line, and dirty dance… The last one is FUN! ;)
Amara: Wow, you are quite the multi-talented one aren’t you darlin’. *leans in* Just so you know, I’m coming to your place for dinner. *winks*
Alright, *wicked grin* what TV show/movie/book do you watch/read that you'd be embarrassed to admit?
Nicole: LMAO! You enjoy putting me on the spot, eh? *shakes finger playfully*
Amara: *laughs* Darlin’, did you think I wouldn’t? Come on now, spill it…
Nicole: Actually, I’m pretty open about what I read/watch… I’m kind of a “if you don’t want to know about it look elsewhere” person… But a guilty pleasure… The Bring it on movies…. All of them…. *shrugs and bows head in shame* Hey even I need a break from zombies, weres, and vampires…. *GASP* I can’t believe I said that out loud!
Amara: LOL! I can’t either. *grins* Awesome. So what are you working on now?
Nicole: Well right now I’m working on a freebie prequel to Snow’s Heat, Book two for the Prowling Around series ~ Snow’s Fury (although the name is up in the air still), a first POV short for a series I’m trying to get in on, a first POV shifter romance, and a horror/comedy (strange combo I know but hey what else would you expect from moi?). Does anyone know how the cloning projects are coming yet? *snicker*
Amara: Vera cool. Uh… horror/comedy? *shakes head and laughs* I would expect nothing less. So where can we find you online?
Nicole: Online huh? Well there’s:
