Amara's Place Faves of 2011 Giveaway

Happy New Year everyone!

I've been sitting here thinking about the books I've read this year, admittedly I didn't read as much as I was hoping, but out of the ones I did manage to read, I wanted to share the ones I liked the most, and the ones I loved SOOOOOO much, I want to not only share which they were, but give them away so you too can see how much they rocked.

So, to the blog I go, with ... *drumroll*...

The Amara's Place Faves of 2011 Giveaway

*whispers* original title yeah? *winks*

It won't be any surprise I'm sure, that most of my faves this year were written by Aleksandr Voinov. He is still just rockin' mah socks with his books. The guy never fails; I still just hang on every word that drips from his pen, or his keyboard as the case may be.

My faves list starts there, in no particular order because I can't choose which I like best...

KENDRAS! I love him so hard. I still regret not licking him in that interview too darn it. Mamba fail. I'll get him next time for sure *winks*

Dark Edge of Honor... definitely at the top of my list. Aleksandr Voinov and Rhi Etzweiler make one helluva team. These two need to get together and give me more. MOAR!

Not to be left out of the faves list, the fantabulous Rachel Haimowitz....

Out of the Haimowitz books I read this year, I have to say, it was Counterpoint that did it for me. Freyrik and *gasp* Mah Ayden! Love 'em.

Another one of my faves, to my own surprise because I don't love tentacles at all...

First Watch by Peter Hansen. I loved this book. All I want from Peter now is... MOAR!!!

Now, moving on to the books I absolutely loved soooooooo hard, I want to do a special giveaway. 2 giveaways actually.

Amara's book uber love fest, you gotta read it so I'm going to give it to you, is...*drum roll*...

Yep, Aleksandr again. Shocking, I know. But I can't help it. Silvio just... does things to me. He owns me completely. He may be my favorite Voinov character. I love him waaaay beyond hard.

My new favorite book, is actually by a new to me author, and an OHMYGAWD WOW book of uber awesome.

Angels of the Deep by Kirby Crow. What a fabulous book. I'm in love.

There you have it. Amara's faves of 2011.

Now, giveaway deets. I want to giveaway the Dark Soul series, yes, all three books AND a copy of Angels of the Deep. In return, I want to know what YOUR favorite book was. To enter, leave me a comment, tell me what your favorite book this year was, and I'll pick 2 winners on Jan. 7th.

That's all for me, for now. Happy New Year everyone!

Later taters!

  1. Don't enter me in the contest because, unsurprisingly, I have all those books. (Even if I've been a horrible slacker and haven't read them.)

Top books though (because, why  not?):
    1. Between Sinners and Saints by Marie Sexton - Emotional scarring, religion and the right amount of sex. Yep, that'd be all my buttons.

2, TIE: Counterpunch and Anchored by Aleksandr Voinov and Rachel Haimowitz (respectively) - Because really, what's NOT to love?

    4. Truth in the Dark by Amy Lane - Actually, this maybe should be number 2, but I'm not reordering. Emotional issues, sex with blindfolds, and classic fairy tale-ness.

    5. The Only Gold by Tamara Allen - I pretty much flop around like a spastic fish out of water when reading her books and this is no different. Heavy character development.

I don't think it's possible to only list ONE book. I put them in order, but it REALLY depends on what I'm looking for at the moment.

  2. Hi darlin' :)

Oooo, great list. I think I have Between Sinners and Saints on the TBR, glad to see it makes your list. The only reason Counterpunch didn't make my list is because I've not read the released version yet, only the WIP version, but yeah, that book rocks hard.

I don't have the other two. I'll have to get those. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever read anything from them at all.

I love finding new authors/books. Thanks darlin'!

  3. I see a certain pattern in your favourites. ;)

Don't enter me, I got them and even if I didn't, someone else deserves them more.

Choosing one favourite is way too hard, but I'll go with Dark Soul-series. How can I not, because.. My Stefano.

  4. Lolol. A pattern? You mean... dark, intense and... a whole lot of Aleks?

It's not my fault. I blame him. ;)

Dark Soul is so great isn't it?! But it's clearly because of... My Silvio :-p

  5. Hmmm that's a hard one.  I've read many good books this year.

Scorpion by Aleksandr Voinov is definitely one.
His Soul to Take by CM Torrens is another one,
And I really enjoyed 'Til Darkness Falls by Pearl Love.

I know there are more, but my mind is blanking without more coffee.

  6. Silvio? Who is this Silvio? All I see is Stefano and Franco.

Well, hella lot of Aleks, hella lot of Riptide, oh and.. My top 3 favourite authors.

You've sold your soul to the devil.

  7. I have just begun reading 11/23/63 by Stephen King and I'm sure it will be my favorite of the year.  I also really liked The Information by James Gleick. I haven't read any of the titles on your "best of" list--I haven't been a big fiction reader. That's one of my resolutions for 2012.

  8. I'm so glad to see we won't be fighting over Silvio. I like you, I'd hate to have to... harm you. ;-p

Sold my soul to the devil? *laughs* Honey... I AM the devil. Did you not know?

  9. Hi Marguerite :)

Oh, I've heard good things about His Soul to Take. I don't think I have that one yet, I'll have to look into that.

Thanks for coming by. Happy New Year to you. :D

American Love Songs - Ashlyn Kane

    Dark Edge of Honor
    18% Grey - Anne Tennino
    Spin Out - James Buchanan
Aisling 2: Dream - Carol Cummings

  11. Wonderful giveaway!  I was able to finish two series by one of my favorite authors this year, Lilith Saintcrow. Those would be Angel Town and Reckoning.  I was finally able to get my hands on a copy of Wicked Gentlemen by Ginn Hale and was not disappointed in the least!  My TBR pile is HUGE but I am always up for more.  I have been eyeballing the DarkSoul series for a couple weeks so to get them would be wonderful.

  12. Loved Counterpunch. And highly recommend BSS, but I'm a giant softy. No grenades get thrown or anything!

You've never read Amy Lane? Her books aren't really dark and heavy (like everything you listed above ;), but definitely worth checking out. Covers a variety of topics/subgenres too. And if you want a taste of Tamara's stuff (all historicals), she has a short story up for free:

  14. I have everything I want from here except Dark Soul 3. So don't enter me in your giveaway.

And, honestly? I don't know what are my favorites of the past year. I loved Scorpion, and Between Sinners and Saints, but I can't remember a lot of what I read as being specifically this year. I *do* remember that while I was visiting my parents over the summer, I got The Search for WondLa by Tony diTerlizzo which was absolutely *amazing* (despite, or possibly because of, being a YA book.) It's post-apocalyptic, with notes of L. Frank Baum, by the guy who wrote Spiderwick, and I'm nearly DESPERATE for the second book (which is due out either March or May, I forget; I only remember it's a month that starts with an M).

And there were other wonderful books, I know...(I just, again, don't remember if they were books I first read this year, or simply re-read this year)...like The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks.

OOOh, I remember -- Come Unto These Yellow Sands; I *loved* that one! And it was one of this year's releases...

  15. That's a tough question, my dear Amara. But, I loved the Dark Soul series, I think more than anything I've read in a very long time. Then Counterpunch and Scorpion.

First Watch by Peter Hansen was amazing, simply amazing. I told you you'd love it!!I loved Damon Suede's Hot Head and Grown Men, simply loved them. I ended the year with Nowhere Ranch by Heidi Cullinan. I've read several of Heidi's books and love them all. Obviously, I have Dark Soul, but couldn't let the new year come in without a visit to the Place.

Love you Amara. Happy New Year!

    Brita

  16. Oooh, tough choices.

    1. Honored Vow by Mary Calmes - I love Jin & Logan and this universe.
    2. A Solid Core of Alpha by Amy Lane
    3. Collared by Kari Gregg
    4. Anchored by Rachel Haimowitz
    5. Static by L.A. Witt

HM: Heatstroke by Taylor V. Donovan (freebie from Don't Read In The Closet v2)

No need to enter me in the contest. Just sharing my top favorites. It was so hard to narrow down, though!

  18. Ooh, happy new year to you! And great giveaway. I loved Come Unto These Yellow Sands too, but my UTTER favourite this year (um 2011, I mean) has been Finn Marlow's A Thread of Deepest Black. Hauntingly good and two WONDERFUL heroes, I loved it :))

  19. I've enjoyed many of the books mentioned in the post and the comments, but 2 stand-out books for me, this year, are 'Junction X' by Erastes and 'Ravages' by R A Padmos.  I also loved the Darshian Tales series (except the 4th, which I thought was weaker than the others).

  20. One book I reallty enjoyed was Bound for the Forest by Kay Berrisford.

    Thanks,

  21. Oh, I nearly forgot about this one...in the boy/girl universe, I luuuurv Alexis Morgan's Paladin series, and she had several come out in 2011 -- my fav, thus far, was "Bound by Darkness" (but my fav of the series was "Darkness Unknown" which I read back in 2009.)

  22. I love your faves! Haven't read half of them yet, but they're starin' at me and demanding attention. :D Haven't bought yet Angels of the Deep, but really really want to read it! :)

My this years faves would prolly be:

Dark Soul series by Aleksandr Voinov
    Counterpunch by Aleksandr Voinov
Special Forces: Soldiers (Director's Cut) by Aleksandr Voinov
Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban
and Adrien English series by Josh Lanyon

Josh and Aleks seem to me like the polar opposites, but they are my absolute favourites! They can do no wrong. LOL :D

  23. My favorites this year were books I did not expect to like:

1.Downtime by Tamara Allen- historical books are not something that I usually enjoy

    2. Sons of the Wolf by Reiko Morgan - which is pretty dark and horro is also not mine, I prefer romance for a reason, still this was one of my absolute favorites after a second look!!

    3. Counterpunch- by Aleksandr Voinov

    4. Galen and the Forest Lord- by Eden Winters- which was silly but a lot of fun!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Count me in please!

The Rifter series of Ginn Hale is on top of my list
    2. Eden Winters- Settling the Score(ok, this one has a theme that I like, so mostly that's why it's the second best)
    3. K.A. Mitchell - Bad Boyfriend

  29. Hi Tracy!

I think I have one of those Paladin books on the gianormous bookshelf. Maybe Darkness Unknown. Got it before I found Aleks' books. lol I had a HUGE TBR shelf before he ruined me, er... restructured my reading tastes. Haven't picked up an m/f since. I totally blame him. ;)
