A Virtual Dungeon ~ Power Play by Rachel Haimowitz and Cat Grant

Today, visiting mah Place is the fantabulous Rachel Haimowitz and Cat Grant. :D I do love when they come to play blog with me.

They've both been here several times, but not like this. This time, they've brought with them some giveaway awesomeness AND... a dungeon. Oh yeah, a dungeon.

Pretty cool, yeah? Yeah. So without me blabbering on, I'll set aside and give the place over.

Welcome back darlin's.

Thank you for joining us on the Power Play: Resistance virtual release tour! *throws penis-shaped confetti borrowed from Anne Tenino* No party is complete without favors, so we'll be giving away some cool Power Play swag to one lucky commenter from this blog at the end of the tour. We'll also be giving away a classic Nook pre-loaded with six of our titles to one lucky commenter drawn from all the tour stops, so follow along and party with us at each--you can earn an entry at every stop!

Kids, don’t try this at home!

One of the most fun parts of co-writing Power Play: Resistance with fellow pervert Rachel Haimowitz was figuring out what equipment and toys Jonathan, our Dom, should have in his dungeon. Since said dungeon is on the bottom floor of an elegant, multi-million dollar penthouse condo in San Francisco, we had the luxury of giving him some really cool (aka, scary as hell!) stuff to use on Brandon, his mouthy sub.

(In other words, we had a rollicking good time getting our kink on! J)

First, some basics. Every Dom/me has his or her favorite toys – preferably a few things their subs love, and at least one that strikes abject terror into their hearts.

This soft suede flogger whispers over the skin like a kiss, the perfect reward for a sub who’s been exceptionally good (which Brandon is not very often). The cane, on the other hand, is an instrument of discipline and punishment, one that only the most hardcore pain slut can tolerate for more than a few strokes. Depending on the thickness and material (the one pictured here is varnished rattan), it delivers a mild to excruciating sting that lingers for a few seconds after the blow. Jonathan’s fond of laying on several strokes in quick succession, which makes the pain even more difficult to process. (After all, he is a sadist!)

No self-respecting Dom would be caught dead without a proper bondage table. This one is nicely padded on top (wouldn’t want to make poor Brandon too uncomfortable while he’s being whipped and caned!) and made of heavy, sturdy wood with multiple tie-points on all sides.

A spanking bench is also essential for the well-equipped dungeon. This one has padded leg and chest-rests, as well as a spreader bar for the arms and multiple restraint straps. And then there’s the sling, suspended on four points by chains in one corner of the dungeon, with stirrups and a nice pillow for Brandon’s comfort. (Ha!)

Jonathan’s also very fond of cages as instruments of discipline. He has a number of them – all custom-built to fit Brandon, of course – including a small, pyramid-shaped cage that becomes very, very constricting after a short period of time—even more so than the one pictured here. He also uses a longer, sarcophagus-shaped cage (the one in Power Play is made of translucent plexiglass and built precisely to Brandon’s body size, but the steel cage pictured here gives a good approximation of the size and style) with small electrodes attached to Brandon’s ankle cuffs that go off every few minutes. (Just to make sure he doesn’t fall asleep!) Jonathan’s found this a very effective means of punishment when Brandon’s being extra-stubborn.

And of course, we mustn’t neglect Brandon’s personal appearance and grooming. Jonathan strips him naked and puts him in this lovely matched set of stainless steel ankle and wrist cuffs as soon as he arrives (but no collar; that has to be earned), then takes him downstairs to shave off his body hair and show him how to use the shower shot. (Yes, it goes exactly where you think it goes. Jonathan likes his subs clean as a whistle, inside and out!)

Brandon is introduced to a number of other toys throughout Power Play: Resistance and Power Play: Awakening, as well, but to learn more about those, you’ll have to read the books! :)

Blurb: Give me six months, and I'll give you the world. Brandon McKinney has scraped and sacrificed for what little in life he’s ever had. Though it’s been fifteen years since he escaped his father’s abuse, the damage remains. Trust seems as far out of reach as his dream of becoming an architect, and though he’s come to accept being gay, he can’t deny the shame and confusion he feels at other urges—the deeply-repressed desire to submit.
Jonathan Watkins is a self-made Silicon Valley billionaire whose ex-wife took half his money and even more of his faith. Comfortable as a Dominant but wary of being hurt again, he resorts to anonymous pickups and occasional six-month contracts with subs seeking only a master, not a lover.
When a sizzling back-alley encounter cues Jonathan in to Brandon’s deep-seated submissive side, he makes the man an offer: Give me six months of your life, and I’ll open your eyes to a whole new world. Brandon doesn’t care about that; all he wants is the three million dollars Jonathan’s offering so he can buy the construction company he works for. But he soon learns that six months on his knees is no easy feat, and shame and pride may keep him from all he ever wanted—and all he never dreamed he had any right to have.

About the authors:
Rachel Haimowitz is an M/M erotic romance author, a freelance writer and editor, and the Managing Editor of Riptide Publishing. She's also a sadist with a pesky conscience, shamelessly silly, and quite proudly pervish. Fortunately, all those things make writing a lot more fun for her . . . if not so much for her characters.
When she's not writing about hot guys getting it on (or just plain getting it; her characters rarely escape a story unscathed), she loves to read, hike, camp, sing, perform in community theater, and glue captions to cats. She also has a particular fondness for her very needy dog, her even needier cat, and shouting at kids to get off her lawn.
You can find Rachel at her website, Tweeting as @RachelHaimowitz, chatting in the Goodreads forums, and blogging at Fantasy Unbound. She loves to hear from folks, so feel free to drop her a line anytime at metarachel (at) gmail (dot) com.

EPIC Award–winning author Cat Grant lives by the sea in beautiful Monterey, California, with one persnickety feline and entirely too many books and DVDs. When she's not writing, she sings along (badly!) to whatever's on her iTunes, watches lots of movies, and fantasizes about kinky sex with Michael Fassbender.

  1. Thanks for the pictures. Very informative. I've read lots of bdsm stories that describe these items, but I just have to use my imagination. So it's nice to actually be able to see them. Bet doing the research was fun. :D

Yikes!!! That sarcophagus would scare the crap out of me. I don't blame Bran for not liking it. :D

    1. Yeah, the sarcophagus is pretty hard core. But the flogger and cane are from my own collection. :-)

  2. The visuals help a ton for those of us not involved with the lifestyle but enjoy living vicariously through characters ;)

Husband happened to be walking past me when looking through those, paused, and then just kept walking, lol!

    1. Well, the cage in the book is made of clear plexiglass, not steel - but you get the idea. Pretty scary, huh? ;)

    1. The cage is probably the scariest thing... in THIS book. For exceptionally bad boys only! *cuddles poor Brandon* :)

  5. Some very interesting & fun toys; but the cage & sarcophagus - way too creepy given I'm claustrophobic. I certainly couldn't go in one and I doubt I could bring myself to put anyone else in one.
And for those of us in the UK who don't have Jonathan's budget - there's a B&B (called S&Ms I think) that has many, many BDSM toys including cages, a St Andrew's cross and many more. I haven't been there but my partners have and they said it's fantastic.

    1. There's a kinky B&B here in Monterey as well. A couple of my friends run it. I've been there for parties a few times.

But yeah, the cages are a hard limit for me, too. You can blame them on Rachel! :-)

    2. Um. Well, I wouldn't say "scared", intimidated more like. XD But after a while it gives ideas that are not intimidating at all ;P
